어렸을 적, 같은 레고 부품을 썼음에도 내 투박한 로봇과는 다르게 화려한 '작품'을 만들어내던 친구가 있었다. 어떤 분야에 있어 기예적으로 '타고났다'는 것은 아마도 이런 걸까. 오브 몬트리얼(Of Montreal)의 8번째 정규작 [Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?](2007)는 이와 같은 생각을 서슴없이 떠올리기에 결정적인 음반이다. 이 앨범은 오브 몬트리얼의 2001년 이후 작업물들 중 케빈 반즈(Kevin Barnes)의 바로 그 '타고난' 능력이 가장 잘 발휘된 것으로 판단되기 때문이다. 여기서 '2001년 이후'라 하는 것은 데뷔앨범 [Cherry Peel](1997)부터 [Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of...
