핑크 플로이드(Pink Floyd)는 영국의 록 그룹이다. 그룹 초기에는 사이키델릭 록과 스페이스 록 음악으로 인정 받았지만 후기로 가면서 프로그레시브 록 음악으로 발전하였다. 철학적인 가사, 실험적인 음악, 유려한 앨범 커버, 특수장치를 활용한 라이브 등으로 유명하다. 가장 성공적인 록 그룹 중 하나로 미국내 판매고 7450만 장, 세계적으로는 2억 장 정도의 판매고를 올린 것으로 추정된다. 핑크 플로이드는 제네시스, 예스와 같은 동시대의 아티스트 뿐 아니라 나인 인치 네일스, 드림 시어터처럼 후대 록 아티스트들에게도 많은 영향을 주었다.
핑크 플로이드라는 이름으로 활동을 시작한 것은 1965년부터이며, 시드 배릿이 건축학 학생들인 닉 메이슨, 로저 워터스, 리처드 라이트, 밥 클로스로 구성된 The Tea Set에 들어온지 오래되지 않은 때였다. 클로스는 얼마 후 탈퇴하였지만, 그룹은 적지 않은 주류적 성공을 거두었으며 런던의 언더그라운드 음악 무대에서 고정적인 인기를 받았다. 배릿이 정신적 스트레스로 약물을 복용하여 정상적인 활동이 불가능해지자 동료들은 기타 연주자이자 가수인 데이비드 길모어를 그룹에 새롭게 영입하였다. 배릿이 탈퇴함에 따라, 베이스 연주자이자 가수인 로저 워터스는 작사가로 활동하면서 밴드에 지배적인 영향을 끼쳤고, 이후 컨셉 음반 The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals와 록 오페라 The Wall을 발매하면서 전세계적으로 좋은 평가를 받으며 상업적 성공을 거두었다.
1985년, 워터스가 밴드를 탈퇴하였지만, 남은 구성원들은 길모어가 리더가 되어 핑크 플로이드라는 이름으로 녹음과 투어를 계속 하였다. 워터스는 이름을 사용할 권리로 그들과 법적인 공방을 벌였으나, 판결에 따라 길모어, 메이슨, 라이트가 계속 핑크 플로이드로 활동할 수 있게 되었다. 밴드는 다시 한번 A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987)과 The Division Bell (1994)로 세계적인 성공을 거둘 수 있었고, 워터스는 솔로 음악가로 데뷔하여 세 개의 스튜디오 음반을 발매하였다. 이후 몇 년간 로저 워터스와 남은 다른 구성원들 사이에 갈등이 있어왔지만, Live 8 공연을 위해 일시적인 재결합을 하기도 하였다. .... ....
