최정상급 턴테이블리스트 조쉬 데이비스(DJ Shadow의 본명)의 신보 발매에는 무려 6년이란 기간이 소요되었다. 6년이면 프린스(Prince) 같은 인물은 음반을 10장도 넘게 내놓을 기간이다. 섀도는 게으른 걸까? 그 6년간 제임스 라벨(James Lavelle)과의 '엉클(U.N.K.L.E.)'이나 '쿼넘(Quannum)', '브레인프리즈'(Brainfreeze)', '프로덕트 플레이스먼트(Product Placement)' 등의 다양한 프로젝트 활동을 펼쳤음을 감안한다면, 오히려 부지런함이 디제이 섀도의 면모라 해야 옳을 것이다. 그렇다면 부담감 때문일까? 그럴 수도 있겠다. 데뷔작 [Endtroducing...]이 받은 그 화려한 극찬을 떠올린다면, 그 데뷔작이 앱스트랙트 힙합의 전성기를 열어 젖힌...
