이무기의 제물로 바쳐지게 된 한 여인과 이무기를 물리치러 떠난 청년. 여인은 백 일 동안 청년을 기다렸고... 청년이 돌아오는 날, 배에 걸린 붉은 깃발을 청년의 죽음으로 착각한 여인은 목숨을 끊었다. 이듬해 여인의 무덤에서 붉은 꽃이 피었고, 이 꽃을 백일홍이라 불렀다.
'인간이 느낄 수 있는 가장 위대한 감정은 사랑이다. 하지만 사랑은 항상 잔잔하고 평화로울 수 없다. 서로의 갈등과 고통, 상처가 수시로 닥쳐오며 때로는 고독을 선물하기도 하고 때로는 가야할 곳이 어딘지 몰라 방황하게도 한다. 하지만 우리는 사랑이 소리쳐 부르면 몸을 돌이켜 답한다. 고통과 상처가 가득해도 사랑으로 충만해지는 행복은 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없다.'
본 작품은 앙상블 '셋(SET)'의 창작 음악극으로, 가야금의 실험적인 연주법을 사용하여 악기의 다양성을 끌어냄으로써 극의 구성요소인 '대사'를 대체할 수 있는 새로운 전달방식을 모색한다. 사건의 전개에 따라 단어나 배경, 사건을 의미하는 소리를 가야금의 다채로운 음색 변화를 통해 상징적으로 표현하며, 가야금 소리에 반응하는 영상을 실시간으로 제어하며 오디오 비주얼을 생성하여 이야기 전달을 극대화한다. 본 음반에는 총 6부분의 구성 중 프롤로그와 에필로그가 수록되어 있으며, '인연'이라는 꽃말을 가진 백일홍 꽃에 얽힌 설화를 통하여 삶과 죽음에 대하여 이야기하고 그 속에 존재하는 인연과 사랑의 소중함을 전달하고자 한다.
Once upon a time ; tale of 100 days Red flower
A woman who is offered sacrifices to Imoogi (a monster serpent) and a man who leaves to defeat Imoogi. The woman is waiting for the man for 100 days.. Once the man came back, the woman was killed by herself because she confused that the red flag on his belly was showing his dead. Red flower bloomed from her tomb next year, and this flower is called Baek Il Hong (100 days Red flower)
'The greatest emotional thing human can feel is love'
Love, however, cannot be always calm and peaceful. Strife, pain, and hurt from each other regularly comes, sometimes present loneliness, and sometimes make confusing where to go. But we answer by turning out bodies if love is shouting and calling us. Happiness that is filled by love cannot be compared to any other things even though there are a lot of pain and hurts.
This performance work is a creative musical play of ensemble SET that we are using Gayageum(Korean Zither) in experimental ways and educing diversity of musical instrument, thereby trying totally a new method to deliver replacing dialogue. We symbolically describe sounds that mean word, background, and incident based on story line through diverse tone changes of Gayageum’s sound and also maximize delivering story line with manipulating live videos and producing audio visuals that are responding to sound of Gayageum.
1. 프롤로그 – 백일홍 (100days Red)
여인은 죽어서 꽃으로 피어났다. 기다리고 기다리던 사랑하는 이가 죽어 돌아오자 그의 죽음을 함께 하기로 결심하고는 언덕에서 뛰어내렸다. 그녀는 비극적인 운명에 마주했고, 그 운명을 바꾸어 줄 구원자이자 사랑하는 이를 만났지만 결국 죽음으로 이어졌다. 그는 자신 때문에 죽음을 택한 그녀를 보고 슬퍼한다. 그런데 그녀는 슬플까? 행복할까?

여인을 묻어준 언덕 위에서 꽃이 자라났고, 붉은 꽃이 아름답게 피어났다. 사람들은 백일동안 청년을 위해 기도하고 오해로 인해 죽은 여인의 넋이 꽃으로 피어났다고 하여 이를 백일홍이라 불렀다.
2. 에필로그 – 꽃길 (Brightlight)
여인은 죽어서라도 청년과 함께할 것이라는 마음으로 언덕위에서 목숨을 던졌다. 사랑하는 이와 함께 가는 여인의 길은 편안하고 행복할 것이다. 그리고 죽음의 길 끝에서 여인은 붉은 백일홍 꽃으로 다시 피어난다.
