Well I woke up Sunday morning
with no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt it's the one I'm wearin' and I shaved my face and combed my hair and stumbled down the stairs to meet the day I'd smoked my brain the night before or:I smoked so much the night before with cigarettes and songs that I've been pickin' my mouth was like an ashtray I'd been lickin' but I lit my first and watched a small kid cussin' at a can that he was kicking then I crossed the empty street and caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken and it took me back to somethin' that I'd lost somehow somewhere along the way On the Sunday morning sidewalks wishing Lord that I was stoned 'cause there is something in a Sunday that makes a body feel alone and there's nothin' short of dyin' half as lonesome as the sound on the sleepin' city side walks Sunday mornin' comin' down In the park I saw a daddy with a laughing little girl who he was swingin' and I stopped beside a Sunday school and listened to the song that they were singin' then I headed back for home and somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin' and it echoed thru the canyon like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. On the Sunday morning sidewalks wishing Lord that I was stoned 'cause there is something in a Sunday that makes a body feel alone and there's nothin' short of dyin' half as lonesome as the sound on the sleepin' city side walks Sunday mornin' comin' down. |

Don't look so sad, I know it's over
And this old world just keeps on turning Let's just be glad, we had this time To spend together There's no need to watch the bridges That were burning. Lay your head on my pillow Hold your warm and tender body next to mine Hear the whisper of the raindrops Beating soft against the window And make believe you love me one more time For the good times. I'll get along You'll find another And I'll be here if you should find You ever need me. Don't say a word About tomorrow or forever There'll be time enough For sadness when you leave. |

I took myself down, to the Tally Ho Tavern
To buy me a bottle of beer And I sat me down by a tender young maiden Whose eyes were as dark as her hair And as I was searching from bottle to bottle For somethin' unfoolish to say That silver tongued devil just slipped from the shadows And smilingly stole her away I said hey, little girl, don't you know, he's the devil He's ev'rything that I ain't Hidin' intentions of evil Under the smile of a saint All he's good for is gettin' in trouble And shiftin' his share of the blame And some people swear he's my double And some even say we're the same But the silver-tongued devil's got nothin' to lose And I'll only live till I die We take our own chances, and pay our own dues The silver tongued devil and I Like all the fair maidens who've laid down beside him She knew in her heart that he'd lied Nothin' that I could have said could have saved her No matter, how hard that she tried 'Cause she'll offer her charms, to the darkness and danger Of something that she's never known And open her arms at the smile of a stranger Who'll love her and leave her alone And you know he's the devil He's everything that I ain't Hidin' intentions of evil Under the smile of a saint All he's good for is gettin' in trouble And shiftin' his share of the blame And some people swear he's my double And some even say we're the same But the silver-tongued devil's got nothin' to lose I'll only live till I die We take our own chances, and pay our own dues The silver tongued devil and I |

I've seen the morning burning golden on the mountains in the skies
Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies Turning on the world the way she smiles upon my soul as i lay diing Healing with the colors of the sunshine and the shadow of her eyes Waking in the morning to the feeling of her fingers on my skin Wiping out the traces of the people and the places that i've been Teaching me that yesterday was something that i never thought of trying Talking about tomorrow and the money love and time we'd have to spend Loving her was easier than anything i'll ever do again Coming close together with a feeling that i've never know before,in my time She ain't afraid to be a woman or afraid to be a friend I don't know the answer to the easy way she opens every door in my mind Dreaming was as easy as believing it was never gonna end Loving her was easier than anything i'll ever do again |

A couple of years back I come across
a great and wasted friend of mine in the hallway of a recording studio. And while he was reciting some poetry to me that he had written, I saw that he was about a step away from dying, and I couldn't help but wonder why. And the lines of this song occurred to me. I'm happy to say he's no longer wasted, and he's got him a good woman. And I'd like to dedicate this to John and June, who helped showed me how to beat the devil. It was wintertime in Nashville Down on Music City Row And I was looking for a place And to get myself out of the cold To warm the frozen feeling that was eating at my soul Keep the chilly wind off my guitar My thirsty wanted whiskey But my hunger needed beans But it had been a month of paydays Since I'd heard that eagle scream So with a stomach full of empty And a pocket full of dreams I left my pride and stepped inside a bar Actually I'd guess you'd call it a tavern Cigarette smoke to the ceiling And sawdust on the floor Friendly shadows I saw that there was just one old man sitting at the bar And in the mirror I could see him checking me and my guitar And he turned and said, Come up here, boy, and show us what you are I said I'm dry, and he bought me a beer He nodded at my guitar and said, It's a tough life, ain't it? I just looked at him He said, you ain't making any money, are you? I said, you been reading my mail He just smiled and said, let me see that guitar I got something you ought to hear And then he laid it on me If you waste your time talking To the people who don't listen To the things that you are saying Who do you thinks gonna hear? And if you should die explaining how The things that they complain about Are things they could be changing Who do you thinks gonna care? There were other lonely singers In a world turned deaf and blind Who were crucified for what they tried to show And their voice have been scattered by the swirling winds of time. 'Cos the truth remains that no one wants to know. Well, the old man was a stranger, but I'd heard his song before, Back when failure had me locked out on the wrong side of the door. When no one stood behind me but my shadow on the floor, And lonesome was more than a state of mind. You see, the devil haunts a hungry man, If you don't wanna join him, you got to beat him. I ain't sayin' I beat the devil, but I drank his beer for nothing. Then I stole his song. And you still can hear me singin' to the people who don't listen, To the things that I am sayin', prayin' someone's gonna hear. And I guess I'll die explaining how the things that they complain about, Are things they could be changin', hopin' someone's gonna care. I was born a lonely singer, and I'm bound to die the same, But I've got to feed the hunger in my soul. And if I never have a nickle, I won't ever die ashamed. 'Cos I don't believe that no one wants to know - |

Why me Lord, what have I ever done
To deserve even one Of the pleasures I've known 주여.. Tell me Lord, 말해주세요.주여.. what did I ever do That was worth loving you 내가 당신을 사랑할 가치가 있는 어떤 일을 한 적이 있는지 Or the kindness you've shown 혹은 내게 보여준 친절에 보답을 했는지 Lord help me Jesus, 도와주세요 주여 I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I've need you so Help me Jesus, 주여.. my soul's in your hand 내 영혼은 당신 손에 달려있답니다 Try me Lord, if you think there's a way I can try to repay All I've taken from you Maybe Lord, I can show someone else What I've been through myself On my way back to you 아마도 내가 다른 사람에게 내가 걸어왔던 길을 끝내고 당신에게 가고 있단걸 보여줄 수 있을것 같습니다 Lord help me Jesus, 도와주세요 주여 I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I've need you so Help me Jesus, 주여.. my soul's in your hand 내 영혼은 당신 손에 달려있답니다 |

Who's right or wrong
We've been injuring each other For much too long And it's too late to try to save What might have been It's over Nobody wins Make believin in forever Is just a lie And it seems a little sadder Each time we try 'Cause it's a shame to make The same mistakes again And again It's over. Nobody wins We've gone too far too long Too far apart The lovin' was easy It's the livin' that's hard And there's no need to stay and see The way it ends It's over. Nobody wins |

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans,
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile-- Once he had a future full of money, love, and dreams, Which he spent like they was goin' outta style-- And he keeps right on a'changin' for the better or the worse, Searchin' for a shrine he's never found-- Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse, Or if the goin' up was worth the comin' down-- He's a poet, he's a picker-- He's a prophet, he's a pusher-- He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned-- He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction, Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home. He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars, And he's traded in tomorrow for today-- Runnin' from his devils, lord, and reachin' for the stars, And losin' all he's loved along the way-- But if this world keeps right on turnin' for the better or the worse, And all he ever gets is older and around-- >from the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse, The goin' up was worth the comin' down-- He's a poet, he's a picker-- He's a prophet, he's a pusher-- He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned-- He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction, Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home. There's a lotta wrong directions on that lonely way back home. ------------- Lyrics Powered by LyricFind Written By KRISTOFFERSON, KRIS Lyrics © EMI Music Publishing |
