INTRODUCTION
JINBO the SuperFreak, 다섯 번째 정규앨범 [Jbfm] 10월 17일, 진보가 다섯 번째 정규앨범 [Jbfm]을 내놓는다. 이번 앨범은 그의 초창기 EP [Call My Name]과 정규 1집 [Afterwork]의 공기를 닮았다. 힘을 뺀 구조, 그리고 믹스테잎처럼 자유롭게 주제를 넘나드는 태도가 그렇다. R&B와 힙합을 근간으로 하지만 특정 장르로 환원되지 않는 혼종의 사운드, 진보 특유의 홈메이드 감각이 앨범 전반을 관통한다.
총 12곡, 그리고 10개의 스킷이 담긴 [Jbfm]은 단순한 트랙 모음이 아니라 하나의 라디오 쇼처럼 구성된다. DJ가 된 진보가 신곡들을 틀어주듯, 곡 사이사이에 그의 멘트, 음성 메모, 친구들의 목소리가 배치되어 흐름을 이어준다. 정치 사회 철학적 사유가 드러나지만 무겁지 않고, 오히려 밝고 경쾌하며 때론 유머러스하다. 초창기의 관능적인 기운도 되살아나, 메시지와 감각이 공존하는 드문 앨범으로 완성됐다. 더콰이엇, 저스디스, Bizzy, Dopein 등이 참여해 다채로운 색을 더한다.
진보는 지난 20년간 프로듀싱과 수많은 피처링으로 대중 곁에 있어 왔다. 그러나 그의 정규 앨범은 늘 작가주의적이었다. 자신만의 관점과 언어를 선보이고 노래했다. 20대의 사랑과 욕망, 30대의 성장과 내적 갈등, 그리고 40대에 접어든 지금은 가족과 사회를 향한 시선까지. 이번 앨범은 그 시간의 축적이 어떻게 음악으로 표현됐는지 보여준다.
화려한 테크닉과 높은 퀄리티를 자랑하는 요즘 음악이 메시지의 부재로 아쉬움을 남긴다면, [Jbfm]은 그 반대편에 서 있다. 소설가의 문장이 나이를 먹으며 감칠맛을 더하듯, 40대에 접어든 진보의 메시지는 깊어지고 음악은 여유로워졌다. 악세서리처럼 플레이리스트를 소비하는 시대에, 이 앨범은 1번 트랙부터 끝까지 이어 들어야 하는 값진 경험이다. ....  ....
