‘철변두-송신'은 다른 세상으로 넘어가는 순간의 이야기다. 삶 너머의 곳에서 빛나는 춤을 추는 전사에 대해 노래했던 첫 싱글 ‘소무-독경'에서 이어져 해파리 세계관을 완성시킨다.
종묘제례에서 조상신을 떠나보내는 절차를 위한 음악인 ‘철변두’와 ‘송신’을 모티브 삼아 환각적 사운드를 들려주는 ‘철변두-송신', 남창가곡에 여성의 목소리를 이식한 ‘반너머' 두 곡으로 구성된 이번 앨범은 미니멀한 사운드를 통해 해파리의 이야기를 선명하게 드러낸다.
해파리는 혜원(프로듀서/인스트루먼트)과 민희(보컬)로 이루어진 얼트 일렉트로닉 (ALT Electronic)듀오다. 제사 음악이었던 종묘제례악과 풍류 음악이었던 전통 가곡 중 남창가곡의 선율과 가사를 재해석하여 엠비언트와 테크노를 기반으로 한 사운드 스케이프 속에 배치한 노래들을 주로 선보인다. 형식과 규율로 박제된 유교 음악에 레이브와 트랜스의 청각적 어법을 결합한 해파리의 트랙들은 정제된 가무악에 숨겨져있던 팝의 면모를 끌어내며 시류를 상실한 리스너의 소심한 클럽파티를 상상케 한다.
HAEPAARY is an alt-electronic duo, consisting of HYEWON (producer/instrumentalist) and MINHEE (vocalist). With ambient music and techno sounds, they have reinterpreted the melodies and lyrics of Jongmyojereak, the royal shrine music of the Joseon dynasty, and Namchang Gagok, a Korean traditional vocal genre that has always been performed exclusively by men. HAEPAARY's tracks demonstrate Hyewon and Minhee's brilliant disentanglement of formality and disciplines of Confucian music with their rearticulation of rave and trance. HAEPAARY's soundscape of refinement will invite intimate strangers to its secluded party.
