His own songs were, and still are, reality on the changing Korean scene. Hahn's "One Day," "Wind And I" and "Last Dream," in concert and on record, have raised the pop music consciousness of college students throughout Korea. "Open up those windows / Let's awaken the world / With your narrow eyes / To the Land of Happiness / We shall march," the lyrics of a Hahn song, has become a campus anthem for young Koreans who are building a new nation.
It's an anthem that could only spring from the talents of this unique singer/composer.... made from the mix of Korean and American cultures and alive with the special harmony of today's Pacific basin beat. Hahn acknowledges this when he refers to himself as a "cultural mixed breed." And his songs still echo with a deep love of his homeland and his desire to "heal the wounds through music."
His songs do exactly that with their regard for the old and their special feeling for the new. Influenced by many of American Pop/Rock musicians, Hahn Dae-Soo can see the changes that are now sweeping the Asiatic/Pacific nations. It's a new wind, a time for new music.... music that he has now brought to the USA with the hope that it will also be heard by the youth everywhere as it is in Korea.
